In the Altenew Scene Building Class you are taught a few different aspects of scene building to include backgrounds, window scenes, masking, and over-sized objects. I believe these cards would fall into the over-sized objects lesson.

The idea that I had when I went into creating these was that these were container gardens or window boxes overflowing with flowers. I don't know if I achieved that look but I do love the way these cards came together. 

To begin I started by ink blending my background.

For this I used Altenew Crisp Dye Ink in Mountain Mist and a blending brush. I wanted to add a halo of color so I kept the blending to the outer edges near the upper half of the card base. When I was happy with the amount of color added I flicked on a little water and absorbed it with a soft cloth. This gave the background a little texture. I set the card base aside to dry and moved on to stamping.

For my planter I used Altenew's Wood Pallet Background Stamp and Silver Stone Crisp Dye Ink. This stamp covered the whole 4.25" x 5.5" card panel. I cut the panel in half in such a way that the planks would be in a horizontal position. This provided two pieces perfect for two cards. To give the planks a little more character I used a W3 Copic marker to draw lines to split up some of the planks. A few nails were added to complete the look. 

I began stamping and die cutting my my flowers next. I used the June 2019 Inspiration Challenge for my color choices.

My colors are not quite as muted but I think they fall within the realm of the challenge.

I chose to use the Altenew Life is Awesome Stamp Set and the coordinating dies.

The colors used are as followed:

Large Yellow Flowers - Summer Afternoon Mini Cubes

Large Red Flowers - Red Cosmos Mini Cubes

Small Red Flowers - Coral Berry, Ruby Red, Grapevine, Jet Black

Small Yellow Flowers - Pocketful of Sunshine Mini Cubes

Small Red Clusters - Parrot, Frosty Pink, Coral Berry, Ruby Red

Small Yellow Clusters - Parrot, Buttercream, Warm Sunshine, Caramel Troffee

Leaves - Bamboo, Parrot, Olive

Once all of the flowers and leaves were ready it was time to arrange my flowers into the flower box.

To do this I used a combination of liquid glue from Lawn Fawn and pop dots. I adhered the floral images and leaves to this part of the panel and added some foam tape to the back.

Before attaching the flowers and planter to the bottom of the card base I stamped my sentiment from the same Life is Awesome Stamp Set.

I added a few more floral images and leaves flat onto the card base and finished it off with a few dots of Ranger Glossy Accents. 

Because I had stamped so many images I ended up with enough flowers and leaves to complete two cards.

For this technique I chose to use some Strathmore Bristol Smooth Cardstock. It can take a bit of water and it has a nice smooth surface. I taped the Altenew Mega Hydrangea Stencil to my cardstock and added some water, not too much, just enough to dampen the paper. I smooshed some Altenew Dye Inks onto my glass media mat and added water. For the background I used Baby Pink and Lime inks. With my brush I dabbed the color in different areas on the stencil. I repeated the process until I was happy with the color. I immediately took off the stencil and allowed the panel to dry. 

Once it was dry I spritzed the panel with a mixture of water and Ranger Perfect Pearls. Again, I let this dry then I used a stitched line die that I have in my stash to give the background a nice finished look.

For my images I chose to use the Altenew Build A Flower: Hyacinth. This is a gorgeous stamp set and it layers very easily. I used inks from Altenew's Spring Bouquet Mini Cube Set for the darker flower and for the lighter flower I used Rose Quartz, Pink Diamond, and Pinkalicious. I die-cut the flowers withe the coordinating dies. and arranged them on my background panel. 

A little tip I'd like to share is to let you know that it is okay to cut your images apart. The flowers have leaves that are stamped at the bottom. I knew that they really weren't going to fit on my card base to be seen so I snipped them off and layered them in with my flower cluster exactly where I wanted them.

Once my cluster of flowers were arranged how I wanted them I set them aside so I could stamp my sentiment. 

For this I chose a sentiment from Altenew's Fancy Greetings set. I stamped my sentiment with Fresh Leaf Dye Ink and then again with Versamark Watermark Ink. This is easily done if you use a Stamping Platform or a Misti Stamping Tool. I covered the sentiment with some Ranger Clear Embossing Powder and melted it with my heat gun.

I added my panel to a green card base using some Double Sided Adhesive. The flower cluster was added using some Lawn Fawn Glue and foam squares to give the flowers some dimension.

Using watercolor with stencils is really easy and I love the way this background came out!

I had set out to make one card but ended up with two!

For these card I used Altenew's Main Squeeze Stamps and Dies.

I began by creating a background for my images. I started by embossing the background with Altenew's Grid Stencil and some Ranger Texture Paste.

I began stamping my images from the Main Squeeze set. For the oranges I used inks from Altenew's Summer Afternoon set. These images have 4 layers so instead of inking the last layer with the darkest color from the set I chose to use VersaMark Watermark Ink and covered this with some Recollections Sparkle Embossing Powder in Clear Gold. I heat it with my heat gun until nice and shiny. 

For the lemons I used Altenew's Pocketful of Sunshine Ink.  Again, I used VersaMark Watermark Ink but this time I used Hero Arts Sparkle Embossing Powder. I heat set these then cut all of the images with the coordinating dies.

Before assembling this card, I spattered the card with some black acrylic paint and some Altenew Antique Gold Ink Spray. The ink spray matched perfectly with the Recollections Sparkle Embossing I did on the oranges. I cut my panel down 1/4 of an inch and added a strip of cardstock that I had inked with Altenew's Warm Sunshine Ink and covered with more Recollections Sparkle Embossing powder. 

I stamped my sentiment, included in the Main Squeeze set, with some VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink and arranged the fruit. I wanted to break this up a bit so I stamped some leaves from Altenew's Beautiful Day Stamps. I used Bambo and Olive Crisp Dye Ink and cut them out with the coordinating dies.

It 's really hard to capture the sparkle her but it is there!

Because I stamped so many images I decided to create a second card!

I think I was able to capture the sparkle on this one a bit better!

I used the same Grid stencil for the background and splattered it with the Altenew Antique Gold Ink Spray. I added another strip of cardstock that was inked in Warm Sunshine and heat embossed with the Sparkle embossing powder. 

For this card I chose to stamp the sentiment in the Warm Sunshine Ink and cover it with the embossing powder. 

I really enjoyed putting these together!
