Favorite Nut Shaker Card

August 28, 2018 0 Comments

Hello Friends! Saundra here to share a little step-by-step tutorial for creating a shaker card.

To create this shaker card you will need the following:

  • Cardstock
  • Acetate or clear packaging
  • Foam tape or Fun Foam
  • Adhesive
  • Versamark Ink or another sticky ink
  • Clear embossing powder
  • Stamps
  • Dies

STEP 1

Step 1: Stamp and heat emboss your background.

For my background panel, I stamped the acorn and leaf images from CDD Autumn Wishes stamps onto some kraft colored cardstock using Versa Mark Ink and clear embossing powder. For added interest, I splattered some white and black acrylic paint onto my panel and set it aside.

STEP 2

Step 2: Prepare inside panel.

For the inside panel, I used CDD Hill Scene 2 Stencil and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink to create a few clouds. I already had a plan in mind so I only stenciled the area that I thought would be showing.

STEP 3

Step 3: Die cut front panel.

To create my window for my acetate I placed the CDD Stitched-In Circles Dies on the edge of my panel, allowing it to partially hang over the edge. I thought having the window off center would give my shaker a bit more interest.

STEP 4

Step 4: Decorate the inside panel.

To decorate the inside panel I choose to use CDD Urn Dies and various colors of cardstock to create a tree branch in the background.

Step 5: Add Acetate

Now it is time to build my shaker card window. I like to use Scor-Tape or double-sided tape to secure my acetate. Liquid glue tends to ooze and it takes a while for it to dry. I am not that patient! Once your adhesive has been added around the opening you will want to add your acetate. I cut my acetate so that it was big enough for the window with some hanging over the side. In the next photo you will see what I mean, at least, I hope!

STEP 6
Step 6: Score your acetate.

With the acetate attached to my card front, I placed it on a scoreboard. You will want to score the acetate right next to the edge of the card and again about ⅛” from the first score line.

STEP 7

Step 7: Begin window assembly.

Now it’s time to assemble the card. I cut a piece of fun foam and added adhesive all over both sides. I also added a piece of Scor-Tape to the acetate flap that was created with my scoreboard.

Add your foam tape of fun foam to the backside of the front panel.

Step 8: Add Sequins

Before adhering your back panel to enclose the window you will need to add some sequins. The sequins I used here was from a fall pack that is no longer available but Craftin Desert Divas has many sequin assortments, choose the assortment that best works with your color combo. (A comparable mix is listed in the supply list below, Maple Leaves.)

Once your sequins have been added, carefully remove your adhesive backing and add your back panel. Now you can remove the backing from your acetate flap and adhere it to the back side of the back panel.

August 17, 2018 7 Comments

Hello Crafty Friends! I'm so glad you are visiting me today!

As you can see this blog post is part of the Craftin Desert Divas August Release Blog Hop.

If you arrived from Jackie's Blog then you are in the right place. If you just happened to stop by and would like to to start this hop from the beginning then head on over to the CDD Blog.

I am so excited about this new release! Crisp leaves, fall friends and more make this release absolutely darling!

My card today features this cute little squirrel from the CDD Favorite Nut Stamps. I colored my images with Copic markers and fussy-cut them out.

I created a background scene with the new CDD Hill Scene 2 Stencil using Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink and die-cut my panel with CDD Fancy Frames Dies. Added to the cloud background is the a few trees on a grassy hill that we die-cut with CDD Fall Border Dies. I inked the ground with Mowed Lawn and Lucky Clover Distress Oxide Inks and colored the trees with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. I added the border to my background panel and put my Fancy Frames dies over it to give it the same stitched edge as my panel.

To complete this fall scene I used CDD Blooming Tree Stencil on my card base.  Distress Oxide Inks used were: Gather Twigs, Mowed Lawn, Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade.

I added foam tape to my stitched frame and pop dots to my stamped images to give some dimension to my card. Some twine and sequins were the perfect touch.

You can find all of the August Release in the Craftin Desert Divas Shop. Be sure to check it out!

Fall In Love ~ Gerda Steiner Designs

August 14, 2018 0 Comments
Hell Crafty Friends!

Today I am featuring a card that I made with Gerda Steiner Designs Stamps and Dies.

These cute little owls just had me! Look at his surprised face! They are such a sweet couple and they were begging me to color them up! These images are from the Fall In Love Stamps.

Let me tell you a little about my card.

I started by coloring my images, owls, leaves and trees, with Copic markers. Once I was happy with the coloring I die cut my images with the Coordinating Dies.

Next to create a background for these images.

I kept in pretty simple and decided to use some ink blending with Distress Oxide Ink.

I thought the MFT Cloud Stencil and Spun Sugar Distress Oxide provided a soft back drop for my images.  For the ground I used MFT Drifts & Hills Stencil with some Mowed Lawn and Lucky Clover Distress Oxide Inks.  I spritzed the background with some water and picked it up with a paper towel. Once everything was dried I die cut my panel with CDD Crazy Stitched Frames Dies.

I mounted my panel on some SSS Fog Cardstock and added my images with some thing foam squares. A little white pen details and this sweet little card was complete.

I hope you enjoyed my card featuring Gerda Steiner Designs.

You're My Favorite Nut ~ CDD August Sneak Peek

August 12, 2018 0 Comments

Hello and Welcome to my blog!

Throughout the week the Craftin Desert Divas design team will be sharing projects featuring products from the August 2018 release that will be available later this week.

Today I am sharing a project created with the new Favorite Nut Stamps. Along with these new stamps I am sharing a look at a new stencil, as well.

This little squirrel image is so cute. He looks like we all feel after eating our Thanksgiving dinner, doesn't he?

To create this scene I started with creating a mask using CDD Torn Paper Dies and some masking paper. I used the negative part of the masking paper and added it to my white cardstock.

The new stencil is going to be a must-have! It has 2 sides the can be used for creating a cloud background and 2 sides to create the ground. As a bonus, the inside has some area where you will be able to added some details to a path or stone wall. It would be a great stencil if you love mixed media.   Just wait until you see it later this week.

So I used the stencil to create the clouds with some Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink and I created the ground with some Mowed Lawn and Lucky Clover Distress Oxide Ink.

Still keeping my stencil mask in place I used CDD Blooming Treen Stencil to create my fall tree with Distress Oxide Ink in Gathered Twigs, Wild Honey, and Fossilized Amber. To add a little depth to the tree I used some Copic markers.

Once I was finished with all of my stenciling I removed my mask. I popped my little image up with some foam tape and stamped my sentiment.

You are going to love all of the images from the new Favorite Nut stamps!

Be sure to join us on the Facebook Event Page! There is a lot happening there and you do not want to miss it!

All of the new stamps, dies, and stencils will be available for purchase on Friday, August 17, in the Craftin Desert Divas Shop.

I will be back on Friday to share another card using this cute set. Hope to see you soon!

You + Me = Best Friends

August 04, 2018 0 Comments
Hello! Welcome to my blog!

Today I am sharing this cute little friend card.

For this card I used Craftin Desert Divas Best Friends stamps. She is so cute and the best part is she is FREE! See the details below.

I colored this little cutie up with Copic markers and added her to panel that I die-cut with CDD Crazy Stitched Frames. I use some Distress Oxide Inks to create a coffee background for her to float in. I spritzed the background with some Perfect Pearls to give some shimmer.

I used a sentiment from the Best Friends stamps and one from the Sending Love stamps (No longer available). I thought they paired well together.

Of course, no card is complete unless there is some SEQUINS! CDD has wide variety and I pulled some from several sets to get a mix that matched my card.

Head on over to Craftin Desert Divas to get your craft on!

Hurry! This offer is only good for this weekend!
